"I am seeking to create a bridge from Los Angeles to communities in Hawaii." Kaz Matmura
Her experience includes teaching at The Stella Adler Academy of Acting in Los Angeles (2016 – Present) She taught Acting for Film Directors at the Art Center of Design in Pasadena, California, the objective was helping directors learn to direct actors more effectively.
Kaz created courses for Japanese actors to visit Los Angeles to experience the most current acting techniques, such as green screen and motion capture movement. She taught as a guest instructor at Akita International university, Japan, as well as directed Poetry Reading Series (which is available on YouTube) with professional actors to help classroom teachers who are uncertain about pronunciation of Elizabethan English.
Some of her past projects include creating free to low-cost Summer Shakespeare camps for local organizations and teaching Young Actors Workshops for Screen Actors Guild conservancy. She has directed 20 solo performances, including a performance by Tony Award winner, the late Sammy Williams (Originator of the role of Paul in A Chorus Line on Broadway)
"I was a pro football player for the San Francisco 49ers so I was determined to find a coach who did not buy into the "athletes cannot act" rhetoric. Kaz supports and encourages all who make career transitions and provides firm leadership and instruction. I believe, Kaz has been directly responsible for my booking, several TV shows, movies, and a long-running theatre production at the Berkley Rep with legendary theatrical director Tony Taccone"
~Dwight Hicks (Defensive Captain of the San Francisco 49ers)
"Kaz Matamura teaches acting in a fun and understandable way that veteran or beginning actors can relate to. Her techniques apply for film or theatre and is extremely useful to all actors of every level. It is well worth the time to attend her class as you will come out with so much knowledge that will help you in your acting craft."
~Allan Okubo (Veteran of Hawaiʻi stage and screen)
