AUDITIONS SET FOR KUMU KAHUA’S PRODUCTION OF Wild Meat and the Bully Burgers adapted by Keith Kashiwada and John Wat from the novel by Lois-Ann Yamanaka
AUDITIONS for Kumu Kahua’s production of Wild Meat and the Bully Burgers (adapted by Keith Kashiwada and John Wat from the novel by Lois-Ann Yamanaka) will be held on Sunday, January 22nd, and Monday, January 23rd, at 6pm at Kumu Kahua Theatre!
Growing up in 1970s Hilo, Lovey Nariyoshi endures middle school with the help of her best friend, Jerry, and forges a sense of identity shaped by white American pop culture and media that makes her ashamed of her upbringing. The satire examines the beautiful, and brutal, realities of growing up local in Hawaiʻi.
Auditions: Sunday and Monday January 22 and 23, 6:00-9:00 pm.
Possible Callbacks- Tuesday January 24 from 6:00-9:00 pm.
Rehearsals begin immediately. Performances will be from March 23 - April 23, Thursdays - Saturdays at 7:00 pm, Sundays at 2:00 pm.
No performance on Easter Sunday April 9, with the possibility of one week extension.
Director John Wat is looking to cast a large ensemble (up to 17 actors) to play multiple roles. If possible, auditioners should come at the beginning of the session and stay as long as possible on either day. While familiarity with the script or the novel will be helpful, auditioners do not need to prepare anything. Auditions will consist of exercises and games and some cold and directed reading. All ethnic types are encouraged to audition. Most of the characters are “local” Asian American, or other “local” types. The character of Mr. Harvey is “haole.”
